Biography
Yannig Guillevic
1964
August 12, the birth of Yannig GUILLEVIC in Boulogne, France to a Breton
father and a Walloon mother.
1970 à 1976
1970-1976 Applies himself diligently to drawing and music. Joins the
Breton group, Quo Vadis,as a flutist.
Reads classical literature.
A passionate interest in Asian art
1976 à 1978
1976-1978 Studies at the Seminary of St Anne d'Auray in Brittany. Fascinated
by medieval religious art.
Giotto leaves a lasting impression on him.
1979 à 1981
Studies at a merchant navy school in Brittany (his father was a fisherman).
Works as a sailor.
1982
Studies electronics.
1983 à 1987
Enlists in the French navy.
Reads ancient philosophy. Captivated by East African art.
1988 à 1992
Lives in Paris. Studies at the Louvre, particularly XVIth
and XVIIth century painting.
Lives in London, working at casual jobs. Studies at the Tate Gallery.
Lives in Los-Angeles. Takes flying lessons in Santa Monica and receives
his pilot’s license.
Lives in Morocco. Intense interest in marquetery... and for all besides!
Lives in Paris. Studies History of Art and business of Art, as well as
XIXth and XXth century painting at the Louvre and Orsay Museum. Becomes
a dealer of XIXth and XXth century paintings.. Has the passion for the
religious art of the XVIIth –century paintings.
Lives in Spain. Studies the work of El Greco, Velazquez and Goya.
Meets the composer Bernard GIULIVI, and studies harmony with him. Throughout
this period, he pursues other, athletic interests : dance, skydiving,
long-distance running, scuba-diving... Awarded for outstanding achievements
in sports.
1993
Commits himself totally to painting. Joins the studio of Eugenio LLAMOSAS
in Vitoria, Spain.
First exhibition "In Honor of Velazquez", Bilbao.
1994 à 1996
Returns to Brittany. Studies at the School of Fine Art and
at the National School of Music (harmony and organ) in Lorient.
Concentrates on drawing and the Nude. Fascinated by primitive art and
by the Gauguin's painting (especially his period in Tahiti).
Exhibitions
in various public venues. Works with the mathematician Franck HEURTEBIS,
founder of the Pythagorean school. Works with composer and organist
Germain DESBONNET. Meets and
works with painter Yvo JACQUIER.
1997
Moves to Larmor-Plage, Brittany. Opens his studio and gallery, Pap'art.
The convergence of primitive Himalayan art, German expressionism, the
work of painter Pierre Soulages, and… an accident in the studio
leads to the original technique that the artist dubs "BG" (Brown
Guillevic).
1998
His brother Bruno helps promote the gallery.
First major exhibition, "Initiatory Triangle", Larmor-Plage.
Additional exhibitions :
InterCeltic Festival, Lorient ; Salon of Painters and Sculptors, Dinard;
Art on Saturdays, Auray.
Exhibition "Duo Painters", with
the Argentinean painter Rodolfo MOLINERO, Larmor-Plage.
Receives commission
(from the State and the Clergy) for 14 paintings for the choir of the church
Notre Dame de la Clarté, Larmor-Plage.
From this moment on, popular
and primitive art will be his primary sources of inspiration.
1999
Receives the status of professional artist at La Maison
des Artistes. Lectures on his paintings in the church of Notre Dame
de la Clarté.
Exhibition "Drawing-Painting" in the Gallery of the Villa
Margaret,
Larmor-Plage.
Exhibition "Beyond painting 1" in the Parish Gallery, Larmor-Plage.
Exhibition "Beyond painting 2" in the Gallery Quai des Indes,
during the InterCeltic Festival, Lorient.
Exhibition with JACQUIER at the Thomas & Worth society, Covent garden
-London.
Introduced to the theory of mediation.
GUILLEVIC founds the ideorealist movement with JACQUIER, PERROCHES, LE
GRAND and ARGUEDAS.
2000
Takes up residence in Pont-Aven with his friend JACQUIER. Continuous
exhibitions of their work in the Ideorealist Gallery. Resides on the
site: www.pont-aven.org/ . GUILLEVIC works with JACQUIER in the same
studio.
The two Ideorealist painters travel to Hermosillo, Mexico.
Exhibition "Historia viva", Gallery of Arts and Sciences
of the University Museum of the State of Sonora.
First conference on Ideorealism Center for the Arts, Hermosillo.
The lecturers and friends during that event are :
Doctor Fernando TAPIA, the director of the INAH (National Institute
of Anthropology and History).
Doctor Alberto ALVAREZ, linguist.
Engineer Sergio ZARAGOZA, collector.
Bachelor Clotilde BARBIER, teacher in language.

During that trip, essentialist experiences with Indians will confirm
the primitive sens in his condition of westerner.
2001
Travels with JACQUIER to Phoenix (twin city with Hermosillo),
Arizona. Private exhibition sponsored by the Alliance Française
of Greater Phoenix and the Institut Français d’Arizona.
Moves
to Pont-Scorff, Brittany. Opens his second studio and gallery, Guillevic
Studio. During
several months, he’s going to train himself
in computing : computer graphics, websites…
Exhibition in the gallery of the Hôtel des Mouettes, Larmor-Plage.
Setting
up and opening of « Abys Limited », based in London,
which is a company promoting contemporary primitive art. The three founders
are : Bruno GUILLEVIC, specialiste in human resources, Stéphane
LORANDEL, professional in computing, and GUILLEVIC himself.
2002
Exhibition at the Thomas & Worth society, Covent garden -London.
Exhibition "Result of History" in the Congress Centre to Lorient,
France (sponsored by the multinational company Bayer).
First presentation of "The wheel of Fortune": artwork which
turns on 360°, with 4 stops -for the 4 paintings to see- of 90° each
one. "The wheel of Fortune" is fitted out with an automated
system and an electronic combination lock which allow for the paintings
to turn (clockwise and counterclockwise) interpreting a series of random
combinations.
Exhibition in the ideorealist gallery to Pont-Aven, France.
2003

Exhibition "Seing in colors" in the gallery "Tour des
Gardes", church in Larmor-Plage.

Exhibition in the gallery L’Alchimiste, to L’Isle sur Sorgue, France.Award winner 2004 of the international competition Quasart.
Participation in the book “Arte EuroAmericano”, consecrated to peace in the world and organized by Susana D’ Momo, artist in Argentine. Member of the Cultural Institute of Brittany.Specially selected by Jean-Claude RACINE as one of the ten artists to represent the charitable organization “Spirit of Love” to Washington, USA. Leaves the ideorealist movement.Exhibition in the art space “Des Arts & des Hommes”, Vannes, France.Public order for a monumental painting 6 x 4 meters (2361/4 x 157 1/2 inches) in the Saint Tugdual’s church, Brittany, France, through the meeting with the priest Henry GOYALLON. Theme is “Jesus washing feet of his disciples”. Reunion with competent people in this theme, amongst them :

Participation in the book “Arte EuroAmericano 2”, consecrated to peace in the world.With “Jesus washing feet of his disciples”, a nomadic artist in Brittany brings humanities to light… This painting of 6 x 4 meters (2361/4 x 157 1/2 inches), which is still in the process of being painted, show also the “Christ baptized in the Jordan river”, the “Unction in Bethany”, the “Bridge with the seven virtues”, the “Eucharist”, the “Last teaching of Christ” and the “Heaven with the 72 angels or celestial hierarchies”.In the face of this “Jesus washing feet of his disciples”, several projects are already in the pipeline :

Production of a 52’ documentary film by Thierry MASSÉ, Cinergy Productions, under the supervision of Pierre MATHIOTE.

Original music for the film with the Germain DESBONNET’s compositions called the 7 shakras which are corresponding to the 7 scenes of the “Jesus washing feet of his disciples”.

Book with collective signatures.
In order to have a master’ painting valued, the company Alera Consulting calls out the nomadic artist.
2006
The “Jesus washing feet of his disciples” is finished.
Trip to Hermosillo, Mexico : exhibition ‘Seing’ in the ExpoGan 2006 and projection-lecture of the movie (working-progress) “Jesus washing feet of his disciples”.
